Participation in past Olympic Games
The tournament's three top seeded teams, Argentina, New Zealand and France, have each participated in 9 Olympic Games. While Argentina and New Zealand both participated in the last Olympic Games in 2004, France's last participation was 36 years ago in Munich.
Argentina's most successful Olympic outing were two 8th places in 2000 and 1988, while New Zealand is a proud winner of an Olympic gold medal, 1976 in Montreal. Two other teams in this event have won Olympic medals in the past: Ireland took silver in 1908 and the USA bronze in 1932.
The USA have participated in 6 Olympic Games, three of which it disputed as the host. The USA men's team finished last in every Olympic hockey tournament it ever participated in.
Ireland only ever participated in one Olympic hockey tournament - the first time hockey ever was played within Olympic Games, in 1908 in London.
